How to choose the right string tension

What tension should you string your racket at?

We often get the question: what tension should I string my racket at?
So we’ve put together a short guide to help you find the right setup.

To be honest, there’s no exact right or wrong answer. It really depends on your playstyle, racket, string, possible injuries, personal feel. Even the weather can play a role.

Our advice? Try different tensions and see what feels best for your game.
A great starting point is somewhere between 21–24 kg, and then you can adjust up or down from there.

Here’s a general idea of how tension affects performance:

- Low tension → more power, more comfort

- Medium tension → balanced power and control

- High tension → more control, less power

What do the pros do?

In recent years, a lot of pro players have actually started stringing at lower tensions.
One reason is that courts and balls have become slower, which changes what tension works best.

Take Adrian Mannarino, who strings at just 10-12 kg, while Jannik Sinner strings around 28 kg.
Completely different styles, completely different setups.

What tension for ReString?

ReString recommends stringing about 0.5-1.5 kg lower than usual to get the best performance out of the string.

It plays especially well at medium to low tensions and gives you more ball pocketing and feel, without losing control.
